Reclaim!

Who are they?

Reclaim! Is developed by Grassroots Indigenous Multimedia (GIM) and meant both to support Ojibwe language learners (side by side software being developed in Ojibwe 7000) and to reach the general public with insightful authentic understanding of Ojibwe culture, and how connected to the environment we are. Reclaim! is 2.5 years into production as the first ever point-n-click video game in Ojibwe language. This game represents what resistance to genocide looks like, in the form of joy and art.

What projects might I work on?

Interns will act as a “Playtester.” The will play through the current build and document the issues as they arise. They will also organize a few other groups of playtesters for in-person and/or on-line group playtest events. Playtester/s will start the internship working with designer and producer to refine the documentation process and create different types of playtest for the sessions they will organize. The intern will work with the Lead backend developer to go through the “bug” list and fix things!

What will working on projects look like?

  • Standing meetings, developers will meet to scrub on mondays and work from a well defined list of bug reports Anangookwe.
  • Playtesters will organize their work around both playtesting (replicate and document bugs) as well as organizing others for less extensive group testing.
  • Initially playtest interns will develop a small “research” like plan in conjunction with Dr. Hermes and Anangookwe, in order to hone in on specific scenes or questions (some of content/understanding, some about bugs).
  • Organize some other small group playtests with MIT students, or other groups.
  • Group meetings with interns and staff to expand collaboration/enjoyment and to expose interns to the entire process of video game production.

What could I expect to learn from this experience?
