Carla Garcia

Carla is a sixth-year PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at MIT. Her dissertation research focuses on understanding how university students can impact politics and society through activism, particularly in Latin America. Outside of her research, Carla is passionate about fostering community and belonging in academia, and is involved in several service and leadership roles at MIT. She is currently the President of the Latinx Graduate Student Association. At the PKG Center, Carla is a Graduate Community Fellow supporting civic engagement and community engaged learning initiatives on campus.  Before starting her PhD, Carla received a BA in Political Science and a BS in Economics from the University of Central Florida. As a Florida native, she enjoys spending as much time as possible at the beach, as well as reading, baking, and exploring the city.
