The PKG Center’s mission is to tap and expand MIT students’ unique skills and interests to prepare them to explore and address complex social and environmental challenges. We educate students to collaborate ethically and effectively with community partners to engage in meaningful public service, today and in their lives beyond MIT. We have a small, tight-knit, lively, and welcoming office. New hires will join our team of 8 full-time staff members and a cohort of 10-12 Graduate Assistants from local universities. (Meet the team!)

Graduate Assistant positions:
Graduate assistants (“GAs”) are graduate students enrolled in full-time master’s or PhD programs who work part-time at the PKG Center and play a vital role in maintaining the Center’s operations and outreach. We currently have six openings for graduate assistant positions during the 2024-2025 academic year.
Salary for each position is $18/hour, along with a free MBTA CharlieCard and earned sick time in compliance with Massachusetts law. Graduate assistants are expected to work 15-19 hours per week with an in-person component at our office in Cambridge. Full position descriptions are available at the links below.
Civic Engagement Graduate Assistant

- Description: The Civic Engagement Graduate Assistant will work closely with the PKG Center for Public Service and the ALL IN Coalition to promote civic engagement and democracy at MIT. The Civic Engagement GA will also provide programmatic support for a civic engagement conference in fall 2024.
Community-Based Programs Graduate Assistant

- Description: The Community Based Programs Graduate Assistant will support the Assistant Dean for Community Based Programs in the planning and facilitation of several cohort-based public service programs. These programs include the Social Innovation Exploration (SIE) first year pre-orientation program, PKG IAP Health (a January break program focused on health equity internships with local healthcare settings), Indigenous Communities Internship (ICI) program, Boston Summer of Service (social impact living learning community), and other local and national programming. The Graduate Assistant will also support other PKG Center initiatives, special projects, workshops, and events.

Communications and Development Graduate Assistant

- Description: Under the direction of the Development Officer, this position will support all aspects of the Center’s communications and development needs. From writing grant proposals and newsletter blurbs to planning alumni networking nights, you’ll become an integral part of the PKG team and support the Center’s mission.

Graduate Student Assistant for Social Impact Fellowships

- Description: The graduate assistant will support all aspects of the PKG Fellowships program, which provides resources for MIT students to develop and implement intensive social impact work with community-focused organizations. Each year, about 60 students are awarded fellowship funding to consult with non-profits, pilot their own social enterprise, or explore social impact careers through internships.

Graduate Student Assistant for Social Impact Internships and Employment

- Description: The Social Impact Internships and Employment program helps connect students with funded internships and jobs at community partners for rigorous, progressively challenging, and academically aligned opportunities that yield significant community impact, build students’ skills, and support career exploration. Under the direction of the Program Administrator, the Graduate Assistant (GA) will support all aspects of the program and gain professional development in social impact and higher education.

Graduate Student Assistant for Social Innovation

- Description: The IDEAS Social Innovation Challenge is the PKG Center’s annual innovation, service, and social entrepreneurship program. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Social Innovation, the graduate assistant will facilitate student networking around social impact projects, promote students’ development of ethical frameworks and practical skills, serve as a bridge between MIT students and outside professionals and alumni using business and innovation for social good, and strengthen the PKG Center’s visibility on-campus.
