Learn More About Urban Coders Guild
Who are they?
Urban Coders Guild is a Tulsa-based nonprofit expanding access to high-quality computer science education for middle and high school students from historically underrepresented communities. Their programs combine rigorous technical learning with mentorship, confidence-building, and real-world pathways into tech careers.
What projects might I work on?
Urban Coders Guild is hiring two Learning Platform Integration Interns to work together as a small, collaborative project team. This hands-on internship focuses on integrating an existing browser-based coding platform into the Urban Coders Guild website so students can begin coding quickly and confidently.
You are not building an IDE from scratch. Interns will work with existing platforms, APIs, and documentation to implement and configure tools that support real classroom instruction.
What will working on projects look like?
- Platform Integration and Configuration:
- Research and evaluate browser-based coding platforms that support API or embed integration
- Integrate a selected platform into the Urban Coders Guild website using supported tools and documentation
- Configure core student workflows such as opening projects, editing code, running programs, and saving work
- Support usability, accessibility, and basic student safety consideration
- Instructional Alignment and Learning Support:
- Configure beginner-friendly starter projects aligned to Urban Coders Guild programs
- Collaborate with educators to ensure tools match how students actually learn
- Identify simple indicators of student engagement or progress supported by the platform
- Documentation and Collaboration:
- Document integration steps, configuration decisions, and known limitations
- Collaborate closely with a fellow intern as a two-person team
- Participate in regular check-ins with staff mentors and instructors
What could I expect to learn from this experience?
This internship offers hands-on experience working on a real-world technical integration project that directly impacts student learning. Interns will gain exposure to product thinking, educational technology, and collaborative development while contributing to meaningful work that supports equity and access in computer science education.
Interns will leave with a portfolio-ready project, professional mentorship, and experience working with real users in a mission-driven organization.
What skills are they looking for in a strong candidate?
- Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Experience with at least one programming language
- Comfort reading technical documentation and working with APIs or developer tools
- Familiarity with basic web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is helpful but not required
- Strong communication, organization, and follow-through
- Ability to learn independently and work collaboratively
- Interest in education, technology, or social impact
