PKG Spring and Summer program updates
(Last updated 5/29/20 at 10:00am)
Dear MIT students,
We understand that the changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic have been both challenging and stressful. The PKG team remains committed to supporting you in person and remotely as details continue to emerge.
Our top priority is your safety and health (both physical and mental), and the health and well-being of the communities we work with. To align with guidance from Institute leadership, the PKG Center is making adjustments with several spring and summer programs. If a PKG program you have enrolled in experiences changes, your program managers will reach out to you directly. We will continue to update this post and share updates on all programs as adjustments are made.
As of Friday, 3/13, the PKG Center staff is working remotely. All of us are still available and reachable via email so please continue to reach out!

To search for Social Impact Employment positions on Handshake, use the filter feature. Scroll down to the “Labeled by Your School” field and select “PKG Funding Eligible” and/or “Federal Work-Study Eligible.” Directions for how to search for labels on Handshake can be found here.

Summer Immersion: PKG Connect
- The PKG Center has reached the decision that we could not ethically coordinate sending a group of students from many different locations, via travel across the US, to a new community. We do not want to further the spread of COVID-19 or work counter to the goals of physical distancing. While we believe this is the correct decision, we also know it is disappointing. Connecting with each student in the interview process gave us great hope for an amazing group experience. Though we will not be going this summer, we are thinking about ways that we could offer a partial group experience early in the summer. We absolutely hope that you stay in touch with us

Summer Immersion: PKG Team Internships with COPE
- The PKG Center has reached the decision that we could not ethically coordinate sending a group of students from many different locations, via travel across the US, to another community. We do not want to further the spread of COVID-19 or work counter to the goals of physical distancing. While we believe this is the correct decision, we also know it is disappointing. We are in active discussions with COPE to review potential virtual work, especially around web design, marketing, communications, public health, health, or social work experience. Either way, we will stay in touch through our office hours or future programs.

PKG Events
- The Social Impact Employment Reflection Dinner (3/31) and End of Semester Celebration (5/13) are both cancelled.
